Feature request

Hi,
Yesterday a played used bad language in the tourney chat channel. I "blocked" the user after that.
Now today the same user is again using bad language in the tourney chat channel.
Can Lichess do something about this ?

Lichess is a chess server for young and old.

Extensive usage of genitals words and all that in the chat channel is something I prefer to have blocked or punished.

Thank you!

Go to their profile and click the "Report" button, at the top.
Thanks.
I did report this user yesterday already.

My question is what "blocking" is actually about.
I assumed that that user would no longer be able to play chess games against me and to chat to me.
But in the tourney chat channel the user doesn't seem to be blocked.
Can Lichess do something with that ? Or is that, technically, a hassle to implement ?

We do mute impolite users. It rarely takes more than a day.
When I played on FICS I was banned without a warning for saying an account was a cheat that was listed with rating reset and the account appeared closed. I therefore thought it was ok to say it was a cheat. The admin know I did a mistake but insisted on banning because "it was abuse". I also know other players on FICS that has been banned for single swearings. I think the context is more important. Are players disturbing or do they cause severe harm to lichess or other users. If not I think one shouldn't ban for only one less overtought inappropriate comment without a warning.

achja, are the players you talk about behaving very offensive or just saying one swear word?

I hope lichess won't be like FICS in this case.

In the case of blocking I have got direct match requests from players that I have blocked. I find this strange too.
It differs from mod to mod, but there's generally quite a high level of freedom allowed here. In the examples you gave, of claiming someone was a cheat (once), of swearing (once), they would not be muted.

There is generally a high level of free rein required until we mute a user, but it requires consistent patterns of flaming, trolling, swearing. For example, I would not ban a user for saying "damn", "fuck" or "shit". I generally will give the benefit of the doubt if someone has said "fuck you" to someone. If they have done it only once, I'll give them a warning. If it's multiple times, I usually get the mute out without a warning. They should know what's acceptable, even with emotions running high.

Finally, any harassment (that is, sustained campaigns from multiple accounts against an individual), any serious, sustained abuse, or any impersonation (of any individual), I will mute or ban without warning, and in some situations would get the authorities involved (ie, serious harassment/cyber-stalking - which happened to one user on the site).
@MakeDeal
That one player was talking about genitals in impolite way in the tourney chat channel, and when I friendly asked to stop with that, I got harassed in a similar way by the same user.

I've been Fics user since years, and it is different there.
A grumpy moderator can make a users life difficult on Fics, but strangely enough at the same time Fics is kind of dying.
Few less active tournament managers, and no bug fixing and less users it seems.
Long live Lichess !

Yes, if using genital words in an extensive and disturbing way and also starting harassing you, a ban can be appropriate, but not for once saying "fuck" during a tourn for example. I also think more can be tolerated in a chat channel than in a forum because forum posts are stored and things that are said in a forum can therefore get much widerly spreading.
