About me

Hi ! My name is Valentina Verbin and I am 21 years old. Currently living in Norway and part of the Offerspill Chessclub. I played on the first board for Moldavian Women Team at the Olympiad in Chennai and represented my country at multiple European Youth and World Youth championships. I love playing chess and analyzing different parts of the game. I am also interested in psychology and started studying it this year.

Playing experience

I started playing chess at the age of 7 in my hometown, Chisinau. I won 4 times the National championship in different age categories and in 2020 I managed to win the National Women championship . My best place at the European Youth Championship was 8th place in 2016( G16) ,Prague and also 2nd place in the European Schools Chess championship in 2019 (G17) . I participated in European Women championship in 2021 ,scoring 5.5 points. I played twice for the National team in the Olympiad U16 and in 2022 ( Chennai) played for the first time in the Chess Olympiad for the women team.

Teaching experience

Started coaching in the last years, mostly focusing on individual trainings , but was also part of the Norwegian girls championship as a coach and helped kids analyze their games. My students have showen great improvments in rating but also in understanding different part of the games.

Best skills

Strong in dynamics and calculation, good feeling for where pieces should go, but also liking positional chess and slowly limiting oponent threats .Trying to play and to teach unique positions to be able to develop a good intuition which helps us in unknown situations by pattern recognition. I also like working with the openings and finding new ideas to try . I am very responsible so I prepare well before the game and can help the student do the same.

Teaching methodology

I like to follow my students closely ,because I believe than analyzing your games and previous mistakes is one of the best ways to improve. I like showing instructive games ,which helps expalaining different principles in chess . I think solving puzzles is very important for remaining alert so I always ask some critical questions or prepare good puzzles at the beginning as a warm up. Keeping the training challenging it's what gives the best results. I also believe that having the good strategy for the game and finding the weak or strong points of your oponent is crucial. If the student wants , I can give good material as homework or advice with a good book which can help you improve.Would be happy to share my knowledge in openings, middlegames and endgames.
