It is so obvious when you are playing a bot on this site.

Yep, it is time to be shadow. And make my exit from this weird little world of virtual chess.
ofcourse it is obvious; they have BOT next to their name
I want to say...

When I first started Lichess I picked off several cheaters every month.

From 1800 to 1900 to 2000, it got markedly less and less and less.

Lately, around the 2050 zone (standard), I have found ZERO cheaters.

I've reported I think 2 people in the last months, and neither have come back as successful.

-

Cheating is extremely rare, and the idea that it's still "1 in 50" at this rating and time control is completely unreasonable.

When I calculated a large empirical sample, I was at 1900 classical.

At +2050, it can't be 2% with a 1% margin, and 4% being impossible.

At +2050, it's got to be about 1 in 100, with a 0.5% margin for error, and 2% being impossible.

Yes. We're talking 1 in a 100 at 2050 standard.

Lichess! Outstanding job guys.

While others took a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach to the millions that they were raking in, you guys steady did what you guys have always done.

You have done your best to make Lichess as good as possible.

I haven't sniffed out a single instance of you guys taking a "just enough" approach.

Not a single one.

Yet, it's all I see anywhere else I've been.

You are the gold standard, and with your hard work at the site and with the anti-cheat proficiency, Lichess has evolved a massive amount of cheaters OUT from Lichess, and INTO other sites.

Where they had to make several accounts per week here, they have no such problem anywhere else.

As such, Lichess is miles ahead of all others, and will hopefully stay that way.

Lichess is as cheat-free as anyone could ever ask for.

It can't be done better.

There is no way that any reasonable person could ask for less than 1%.

Well done.

@Onyx_Chess
"Cheating is extremely rare, "
Some ppl think otherwise, I was accused of cheating couple minutes ago in a casual game and ppl accuse of cheating other players in tournament chat pretty often. But aside this "I hate to lose so I accuse everybody of cheating" its true cheaters are pretty rare or almost non existing here unlike the other side. I think ppl realize this and they even do not try to cheat, they know they will be caught.
@POWERMONGER

"Some ppl think otherwise"

No question there.
The suspicion itself is a much bigger problem than the cheating itself.

You're exactly right. Lot's of unfounded and unwarranted accusations going on.

If absolutely nobody cheated for a year, we would see just about the exact same amount of accusations in the forums.

So the amount of windbags that storm into the forums to run their big mouths are an indication of NOTHING objective, except for their willingness to rattle on and on like the empty cans that they are.

The Lichess community should dismantle them on sight.
Make them know that there is no kind of support or tolerance for that nonsense.

They are a HUGE part of the problem.

How do I figure?

I figure like this:

The title of the discussion is about Bots, then you start talking about cheating. Do bots play on this site? Why, how can a bot play? I just played some user called Bot and it played very badly. Aren't bots suppose to be good? It was only the bots second game. Are people making bots that teach themselves how to play chess? Are they really always identified Bot/number? Is there a way to eliminate the possibility of playing bots, seems like a worthless endeavor to me.
@Onyx_Chess

" the amount of windbags that storm into the forums to run their big mouths are an indication of NOTHING objective, except for their willingness to rattle on and on like the empty cans that they are."

Careful not to choke on your own words now.
I just play 3+2 and, at my level, cheating is quite rare...maybe I meet a cheater once per month or so.

They are usually very easy to spot as not only are their moves good but they also come in very evenly spaced intervals of time regardless of the complexity of the position - a dead give-away!

I usually just ignore this and play someone else but I must say Lichess do a phenomenal job of catching these guys as always when I suspect I have played a cheater I find a message a few days later telling me such and refunding any rating points lost - great work guys!!!
@Kanaan92, imo @Onyx_Chess is a different case, he doesnt act like big mouth, just stating what happens here sometimes.

@Onyx_Chess, I dont think most of those who accuse others are cheaters, they just 1) hate to lose, 2) hate to lose with players with lower ranking, 3) do not understand that almost everybody will lose with someone objectively much weaker sooner or later, 4) combination of 1, 2, 3.

Check my game and chat from yesterday:
lichessDOTorg/Hfc7OpdxFGIO

His or her message in the chat window came after his/her 18. ... Ng4! :D I was lower rated so in his/her eyes I had to be cheating I guess. Just the accusation made me, yes, ME, who didnt do anything wrong, worried - what if I played the "perfect" game"? That can happen even to weak players, especially in short games when probability of blunders and mistakes is lower than it is in the long games. So now he or she reports me and my account is going to be banned?

After the game I ran the analysis to be sure there would be some mistakes or innacuracies, fortunately 18. Bf3 instead of 18. Nd7 (I didnt see it, lol) strongly indicates I probably did not run any engine. But just due the accusation I was feared that I did something bad, especially when I do not play casual games often so it might be taken as testing engines for future cheating. (I wanted to test Vienna game in non rated game(s) but after the accusation in my first casual game I rather stopped.)

Btw, his or her completion rate indicates s/he tends to not finish games which is a sign of a bad sport. Plus accusation without any evidence...

tl;dr: People who accuse others without any evidence (finish the game first and then run the analysis, damn it) are pita as well as the cheaters.
@POWERMONGER

That's partially true though in my case he attacked Me with petty insults in a different thread for calling him out on being over aggressive. And every time another user disagreed with him he labeled them troll. I'm not perfect however I recognize peoples right to disagreements with a certain amount of respect.
