What can I learn from this game ?

Apart from the fact I'm way out of my depth vs quality opponent of course.

I'm also interested to know how you "break the cycle" so to speak.
this is called the mirror opening. you can break it, but maybe you dont want to, because then you will have bad luck
To be honest after a3 and a6 I thought that the game was just a piece of junk. But actually the whole symmetry thing, the "immitation" or mirroring moves, were not just interesting but I found it to be very beatiful. I've never saw something like this before. I've had some games with initial symmetry such as the symetrical english variation or some bishop openings, but the symmetry generally ends pretty early in the game.
The first great blunder of the game is made by black after 7. ... d5. There you had 8. dxc5 which you playied. But after 8. ... dxc4 you spended literally 2 seconds to take the queen, and all your advantage is gone. I wouldn't judge the capture since with the engine saying it's a blunder, is easy for anyone to say that you shouldn't had taken the queen. But you are asking for what you can learn from this game. I think that this is at least one of the things, don't rush so much. It's not because the position is symmetrical that is an easy position to play. 9. Qxc4 is a really hard move to find and would "break the cycle" after ... bxc4 10. Cxb4 . In this postion you have 2 minutes more then your oponnent to play, so you could calculate candidates moves. And I wonder what was your evaluation of the position in this moment of the game. Did you thought that someone was winning or you evaluated as equal?
The second moment that maybe says something about your play is the missed tatic after 20. ... Rfd8. Again playied very quickly, but in this position time was more or less equal so is understandable to do it.
Overall a very interesting and atypical game. I would be amazed if the whole thing were to be some kind of weird theory.
Thanks for the feedback @Martin_1001 ! :)

This was a 5 min blitz game between me 1012 and 2024 so was always likely to be a junk game (hence my a3) but like you, I found it interesting too.
I see what you mean about time but being such a good player felt the only chance I had (not that there was any ! ) was to move quicker than normal. Generally I can barely think quick enough for Rapid as I am not even a "modest" player.
And it was clear he was toying with me but I like the fact he did as it gave me food for thought.
I do remember I was so exasperated by move 32 that it led to my blunder.

My evaluation of the position was non existant really - due to time and my lack of ability.
But guess what I take from it is - opportunites do exist when I perhaps assumed they didn't - imagining the game as symetrically even (or at least not knowing any better).

So many thanks - I greatly appreciate your feedback in this regard with the Qxc4 move and missed 20... Rfd8
It's given me the answer I was searching for - thanks again ! :)
